Well, what about finding secrets? Like the hidden flagpoles in the New Soup games? Those are fun to find. And power-ups make the game feel... Not bland. And the design of the level. Nintendo spends a really long time making these levels, and they are designed really well. Yeah, New Soup did get boring, but that's because they copied the game on 4 different systems.
