Personal Theory of Mine: I believe that the reason Anne Marie Frank referred to her diary as "Dear Kitty" was because she wanted a cat, which, if I remember correctly, she had one at her previous home in Merwedeplein, Amsterdam that she had to abandon when Anne went into hiding.
