Just a few days ago, someone asked me why Hitler invaded Denmark and Norway (a simple question any casual historian could answer). I replied "Hitler invaded Denmark and Norway for two reasons, 1) to secure his Northern-flank and prevent the British and French from landing troops right above our heads, and 2) to secure a vital iron supply." Some other person asked me why they needed iron, which since I didn't have my papers with me and thus couldn't really use any sources, I replied "How were they supposed to build their ships and tanks without iron?" They then named two materials, those being steel and aluminum. Here's the thing though: STEEL IS MADE OUT OF IRON (well, maybe not all steel, such as synthetic steel, but synthetic steel didn't exist back then). And how is the same material they make TIN CANS out of supposed to hold up against artillery and flak guns? At least think about what you are going to say before you say it... God...
