The conspirators only had time to prepare one bomb, and it was placed in a briefcase. Colonel Heinz Brandt moved the suitcase to the right side of the table, closer to him, and left it leaning against the leg less than a metre away from Hitler himself. This killed Brandt but saved Hitler. Some historians say that he was gravely injured and if it wasn't for British medicine he would've died due to his injuries. Others say that he was slightly wounded.
