George S. Patton seemed to take no blame for his actions, saying "the soldiers were cowards and that the slapping." During the incident, he also brandished his pistol at one of the soldiers. He refused to work with his colleagues such as Eisenhower and MacArthur, saying "Let the gentleman up north [Eisenhower and his staff] learn what we’re doing when they see it on their maps,” before the March 1945 offensive in the Eifel Forest.
