There was an American gunman by the name of Francis Crowley. On 7 May 1931, the New York City Police Department tracked him to his ex-girlfriend's fifth-floor bedroom apartment. 300 policemen, armed with rifles, machine guns, and tear gas surrounded the building and a crowd of 15,000 people gathered to watch the ensuing fight. Crowley was wounded multiple times, and during the incident he wrote a famous letter which stated that "Under my coat is a weary heart, but a kind one — one that would do nobody any harm." A day earlier, on a country road in Long Island, two officers approached his parked car and asked for his license. Without saying a word, Crowley stepped out of the vehicle and shot them both, killing one and wounding the other. And that was the man who said "Under my coat is a weary heart, but a kind one — one that would do nobody any harm."
