Self-inflicted suicide by gunshot was then seen (in my country at least) as a noble thing to do. Post-war Europe saw Hitler's death as noble (then again, there were many pro-Nazi publications stating that Hitler was alive, which was objectively false) in comparison to the deaths of figures such as Heinrich Himmler, who committed suicide by cyanide poisoning. Although Hitler wasn't that far from that, as he had shot himself in the head while on a sofa in the Führerbunker in Berlin while simultaneously biting on a cyanide capsule. Speaking of which, ten minutes prior to Hitler shooting himself, his wife, Eva Braun (whom he had married the day prior on 29 April 1945) committed suicide with cyanide capsules. Prior to then, Hitler ordered his personal doctor to administer the cyanide to Blondi and her pups, which, as you would expect, killed them.
