Description: Whatever anyone knows about an IP associated with you personally in any way is of virtually no value in bringing harm to you. On mobile devices, any IP associated with the device will be very temporary. On hardwired devices, you will have probably one IP associated with your home or business, and this too may be temporary. Even if it isn’t, any secure firewall/router will be able to prevent anyone from accessing the rest of the network that exists on the local premises. The worst anyone is likely to be able to accomplish is some kind of denial of service attack. Unless it is particularly well orchestrated, you will suffer little more than a slowdown in service while your ISP corrects the attack. If the ISP can track the attack to a human (unlikely), then there may be a legal recourse, but it is highly improbable that it would be worthwhile to pursue that unless the proof is clear and there are demonstrable damages. There is absolutely nothing that associates an IP address with any other personal information about you. An IP address is not like a postal address or a phone number in that sense. An IP address is assigned to an Internet host, not a person. The assignment can be, and is most often is, transient in nature. It’s about like the association of you to the seats in a stadium through the seat numbers printed on your admission ticket.
