Note: The first U.S. Canteens during World War II were made out of aluminum. To lower the cost so they could spend the money on other military-related things, they switched to khaki. In 1942 they began to produce porcelein-plated canteens and, from late 1942 to 1944, corrosive-resistant steel canteens were standard issue.
