On 9 December 1940, the Allied Forces reach the Italians. At some time around 7:00 AM, the British armour and Indian infantry advance through Bir Enba, moving to the rear of the Nibeiwa camp. Their position around the camp wasn't mined, unlike the North, and so the 7th Armoured and 4th Indian Infantry make it to the Italian position sooner. The Matilda IIs advance to the Northwest of the camp at 7:15. By 10:40, the entirety of the Maletti group is destroyed (including the armour). Pietro Maletti was killed himself whilst firing a machine gun and a total of 2,000 Italian and Libyan prisoners were taken at Nibeiwa alone. In the North, the city of Maktila is assaulted by the Selby Force (3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards and some artillery) but withdraws to avoid capture by the 4th Royal Tank Regiment.
