Backstory: It all started back in Undertale 2.0, where Alpha was performing experiments on cloning, which in it of itself is unethical. His experiments were going fine, and then the unidentified Sans, now known as Infected, showed up and started causing problems. As said with the original Wiki, Alpha and Error404 showed up to fight Infected, but in the time that passed before they got there, Infected found his way into Alpha's lab, and started breaking everything in sight. One such item he broke, was Alpha's prototype cloning machine, he had been experimenting ways to clone himself. In the event he died, Error404 wouldn't notice, because a clone would take his place, with all his memories. So of course, Alpha's base soul magic was already encoded into the machine. Infected went rampant in the lab, and sabotaged the machine, perhaps looking for something? He, in the process, hurt himself for a decent amount of damage, and splintered a chunk of his skull off. This wound now covered by the piece of cloth stitched on him. The chip of his skull fell into the machine, and turned to dust, but this didn't stop the process. The machines sensors went off, detecting the pile of dust in the chamber, and then activated. Using Alpha's base soul magic, and infusing it into the pile of dust from the evil Infected, Beta was created. Nearly the same as Alpha, but with evil intentions. Where Alpha wishes to protect AU's like Ink Sans, Beta wishes to destroy them all, like Error Sans. Although Beta and Error have the same intentions for the destruction of the multiverse, they don't get along. Because Beta reminds Error too much of Alpha. Beta, staying true to his name, isn't a completed Sans, he has bugs that need to fixed. The closest thing this issue can be related to is Schizophrenia. Beta does possess multiple personalities. One of them being a clone of Alpha, another being a fragment of Infected. Like Infected, Beta jumps through AU's looking for stuff. But unlike Infected, Beta isn't looking for LV, but for items that are linked to certain people. Gaining possession of these items gives Beta another personality. Though the personalities are not exact copies, so some things would be off. For example, getting the golden locket would put a fragment of Chara's, or Asriel's personality in Beta, depending on which locket it was. Consuming butterscotch pie would give him a sliver of Toriel's personality. As of right now, he only has two personalities, Alpha and Infected. But Beta is determined to find items to give him more. He solely believes that he is unfinished due to the fact that he knows that he's an accident. He believes the more personalities he collects, that they'll, at one point, meld into one personality, and all his bugs will be patched, and he'll be a full Sans. It's worth mentioning that since Beta's base soul magic is Alpha, he should be totally invisible, but since he was made with Infected's dust, he's not invisible, but not totally there, either. Upon seeing Beta, he appears see-through. He's half there, and half not there, if that makes sense. He exists enough to act like a ghost and mess with physical objects, but he's also non-existent enough to phase through solid walls if he so wishes. When it comes down to it, Beta is STILL a clone of Alpha, except he's 'infected' by Infected. Since he's not a correct clone of Alpha, roughly half of Alpha's memories are not there. And being part Infected, half of Infected's memories are there as well. Beta remembers the hellfire the Infected experienced. He remembers the moment when Error404 and Alpha created Undertale 2.0. Using this knowledge, Beta has a slight advantage over Alpha, albeit not much of an advantage, but an advantage nonetheless. Nobody knows here Beta is now, this knowledge is possibly outdated, and somethings about him have changed. If you ever see a black mist with two red dots out of the corner of your eye, don't make eye contact. Don't acknowledge his half-existence. If he thinks you're not worth making your personality a part of him, then most likely he's just being creepy, and he'll leave you alone. It could be the difference between life, or death. A fate worse than death would be in which the only way anyone would remember you would be but a corrupted, disfigured personality through Beta. So remember, don't acknowledge him, and he'll leave you alone ........... maybe.
