Conditions in the camp are terrible. The prisoners' barracks lacked or had no furniture for the first few months, the rooms were overcrowded, food rations were limited to one meal a day which averaged a total of 800 calories, and there was little clean water which led to malnutrition. There are few opportunities for bathing, lice is an issue, the clothing prisoners receive does not protect them from the weather, roofs often leak, diarrhea is an issue, disease is an issue, and executions are commonplace.
