once i get back to base, the first thing i do is grab the largest flint that i found, and fashion it into a small hatchet with the sturdiest log that i have. I then take this hatchet and whittle away at a log until it has a flat, shovel like face, and i attach this log to another using a ducktail joint, effectively making a hoe/shovel. I use it to break apart and clear out the charcoal from my pit, making a pile next to my wood.
