pepper is also 100% right about the sponge thing. theres no playbook to getting good at proportions/technique, i "traced" (looked at art on my phone and drew it on my sketchbook next to me) a lot of fullbody art and that helped me absorb basic proportions, after that just practicing on my own and exercising patience
