The general consensus in non-academic circles is that Vladimir Lenin supported Trotsky's theory of permanent revolution, and by extension wanted Leon Trotsky to become his successor. I have read the writings of Vladimir Lenin and I've come to a different conclusion: Lenin supported Stalin's theory of stagism & socialism in one country, and by extension wanted Iosif Stalin to become his successor.
