| BASED ON: | 27. August 1941, during a parade in Versailles by the Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism (LVF), the French ultranationalist, monarchist, and Dunkerque veteran Paul Collette drew a 6.35mm revolver and shot five times at Prime Minister Pierre Laval, who had arrived for inspection. Four people were wounded: Laval, Marcel Déat (former Minister of Air and later Minister of Labour & National Solidarity), a colonel, and another legionnaire. No one was killed in the attack due to the distance, the relative weakness of the calibre, and the cufflink on Laval's shirt deflecting the bullet. The legionnaires attacked Collette, beating him half to death before police intervened. |
