The extraction of surplus value is theft. Here's an example. Oliver owns a restaurant which makes burgers. However, Oliver himself doesn't understand how to make food, so he hires Dietmar. Dietmar buys the ingredients and the fuel for the burger (which cost €100 respectively). Dietmar then makes the food and serves it to the customer, with the customer paying €300, minus €100 for the cost of the ingredients and fuel. This leaves Dietmar with a balance of €200. Now, even though Dietmar ordered the ingredients, bought the ingredients, made the food, did the customer service at the window, and gave the food to the consumer, Oliver (the employer, who has been sitting on his arse all day) comes along and takes a portion of the money that Dietmar made.
