Eh. I mean, there's 5 humans left and the AI hates humanity, but those are the only similarities, really. It's actually inspired from the Mother series with it's progression, having multiple designated locations you need to get to fight the final boss. Mother 1 and 2 are pretty much the same, needing to find 8 melodies from these other worlds. Mother 3 has the 7 needle locations, in which you have to pull all the needles out before they destroy the Earth or something (which of course, the final needle is guarded by the final boss).
