44dd83 I work in a materials/optics lab, a couple different projects on-going but I’m part of the electrical measurement project. We’re measuring the electrical properties of different materials for now, if we find suitable materials we’ll use them to make transistors as the next step.
44dd83 If I get the measurments done as soon as the sample arrives, I’ll be able to co-author or maybe even author my own paper on Hall measurement techniques that I invented. At my age its quiet unheard of.
8de716 hehe
56da69 So does your lab just make the transistors? Or are you testing different types of transistors?
44dd83 Not quiet. Its not as straightforward as that, since this type of stuff isn’t really being done. Forget diamond, cBN growth on the level we’re trying to do is pioneering work, ain’t no people we can call for it we gotta do it ourselves. Right now, I’m working on making Hall measurement contacts for a cBN diamond film coming in sometime next week.
56da69 Bc I want to know what you're doing. You cant be working on defining transistors, can you? What are you doing with them is what I want to know.
5b2f3e i cast subspace trip... mine?
5b2f3e don't see quite how but go off ig
56da69 Ah yes. So are you testing the different amounts/types of such materials you should use in able to create an efficient Transistor?
44dd83 Well whyja ask me to explain it then?
ac2cc0 tv static
44dd83 So a solution is using higher band-gap materials, like Diamond and cBN, to make transistors instead of silicon.
17052c blud thats nasty as fuck, i like space shit, not whatever that is
56da69 (Bmo I understand all this )
5b2f3e it's the same as lab grown meat, but with a mouse
44dd83 Folks normally use silicon for those materials, since you can make both N and P type silicon (two different types to make a sandwich with) but the problem is, silicon ain’t too good at handling high current or high temperature.
17052c MATERIALS??
56da69 I understand, Bmo.
5b2f3e you say ew, but the process and the fact he has the materials is actually really fun
19fb44 I'm relaxing and waiting to go to Estonia for the rest of my planned deployment
44dd83 Well in a transistor, you squish two pieces of material together that have been hit with different types of atoms in order to change their electrical properties. These are called junctions, and by making a “sandwich” of these materials you can make a really small electrical switch that you can turn on and off with electricity.
56da69 (Who doesn't know what a transistor is?)
17052c ew
5b2f3e this third version of erasoality is going to be so lit
5b2f3e the fact that bmo could legit just grow some mouse flesh
56da69 Yup!
8de716 "specified terms specifically" chill out bro you're trying too hard
44dd83 Alrighty. Do you know what a transistor is?
17052c the ages are for 6-12 ithink, but im 14, so i obiously cant participate, so voulanteering is a loophole. but next week, they got a drawing class for the teenagers, so im pretty hyped
56da69 Enough complexity to adequately explain the topic to me, yet without specified terms specifically used in such line of work.
44dd83 You want the straight forward answer or the dumbed down version?
5b2f3e oh god
17052c i've been voulanteering (help me) at my library for the Summer Reading Program every Wednesday at the shows
5b2f3e I'm gonna start playing with swords, real swords
56da69 Cool! Can you explain what "cBN" and "Diamond testing and development" is?
44dd83 I’ve been working at the lab, back at what I was doing last summer, cBN and Diamond testing and development.
ac2cc0 summer job
17052c Anyway, hi, Terrie
5b2f3e oh fucking HELL the shading got sniped in the import. but this was an improved undertale font format of Colorverse made by King Squid
56da69 What have You guys been doing with your summer free time?
56da69 Im doing great, plant! Ive been working on conversing with people. Quite interesting to me. Ive read some books in my spare time over the summer, too.
You can leave feedback about PAM here, but please note that I don't have a lot of time to work on PAM at the moment. There are lots of other tools out there (see here for examples) in case you need a tool with more features. Thank you for your understanding!
