8c660b Honestly i expected more out of the big hit song Stranded. It was good yeah but its kinda like Alter Bridge's big hit song Metalingus in the sense that it's a very good track but I dont think it's deserving to be number 1, ykwim? Also, Magma's title track being 6:42 tickles my brain just right... my all time favorite song, The Last Hero by Alter Bridge, is also 6:42 and also a title track. I dont know why this appeases me so much but it does... This album is certainly one of the better things I've heard so far, but i cant quite say it's better than Foo Fighter's self titled record. It's close second, I'll say.

8c660b Magma is... wow! Awesome. Right out of the gate I noticed the album felt softer than the typical Gojira effort, and looking at the Wikipedia article confirmed my suspicions. Magma is something of a stylistic departure from the rest of Gojira. It's a bit more atmospheric which REALLY hooks me because i sucker for rock/metal that's styled like that. It's still Gojira so it's still pretty damn heavy, way heavier than typical radio stuff for sure. Magma is a confident top 3 Gojira album in my opinion. It does everything i love hearing in metal so I'm 100% biased to it but it's still awesome. If you're into metal and wanna check Gojira out, this is a pretty great start, something of a gateway between typical metal and Gojira if you will. This record isn't quite the level of awestriking brilliance that The Way of All Flesh or From Mars to Sirius are but it's hanging about that area. 10/10 for sure.
