752b4c Depends on how cliche it is. Tragic backstories will always be a thing. It just depends HOW tragic, how bad, what`s in it, how much you twist it. If it`s something basic like...Hey, I was bit by a radioactive spider.....Yeah that`s cliche, nobody`d find that interesting. Toss in some stuff people can relate to, though, make it realistic and twist it a bit....And then it works, if you do it right. -BD

90896a I've never had any incredibly tragic backstories for my characters, as I find the whole tragic backstory thing to be cliche. But I guess it's become a cliche because it works.

752b4c One of the key ways to hit a reader right in the feels when writing a story, I`ve learned....Is to put things in there that are on some level relate-able. Such as bullying. And then make it worse, so you can sympathize. It makes the story have more flavor if it`s tragic. Especially if you love the character so much, and want them to be happy. -BD
