2d9ac3 I wasn't? Someone just asked me about the 1929 Stock Market Crash and I gave an objective, unbiased approach? I even said prior that I wouldn't start a political debate about anything as it hinders my credibility as a historian unless it concerned the AfD, which it does not.
7ce906 anyways.. -Sans

2d9ac3 It's commonly accepted that the Great Depression ended in 1936-39, and, in many aspects, that was true, however in terms of unemployment, the United States never fully recovered until 1941 after the Pearl Harbor bombing raid. It was likely due to the transition of the U.S. to a war economy and the encouragement of women to serve in the work force.
7ce906 And I'm back. -Sans
2d9ac3 There were also the Neutrality Acts.
2d9ac3 Tim, the Roosevelt administration and frankly the American people wanted no part in the Second World War in the first place. As far as they saw it, it was an Afro-Eurasian conflict. FDR didn't militarise during the 1930s, he passed the Good Neighbour Policy, requested that maybe Hitler didn't invade a few dozen countries and start a conflict that would result in the deaths of 60 million people (which Hitler responded with by mocking his address in front of the Reichstag in 1938), responded to the Japanese invading Manchuria by merely severing trading ties, and not declaring war on the Axis as a whole when American Congress declared war on the Empire of Japan. Roosevelt did pass conscription laws, but it was a peacetime war draft in 1940 well after the war had already broken out.
959f08 Quite funny the fact that Americans stopped being broke when hitler went to power…
959f08 I blame capitalism
959f08 Oh crap…I fact checked myself and now feel stupid…
2d9ac3 There was also FDR outlawing child labour (which the economy, particularly factories and coal mines) greatly depended on. The Gold Standard which was used to back up the money in case of such an event was never actually used during the depression. It is believed that some rich businessmen and economists in the U.S. knew about the depression before it happened and that is why the vast majority of them withdrawed their stocks before the collapse of the economy, essentially devaluing the stocks.
2d9ac3 The cause of the event is unknown. There are two major intepretations, those being Keynesian and Monetarist intepretations. Keynesians blame the stock crash and the wider Great Depression as a result of shrinking spending habits. Keynesians argued that governments during the event should begin deficit spending in terms of social welfare programmes to stimulate the economy and foster more spending and economic growth (note: some people claim that these economics only lengthened the Great Depression). Monetarists, on the other hand, argued that the stock market crash was caused by deflation, which, in turn was caused by the credit system becoming overextended (in simpler terms: the monetary system itself collapsed). Monetarists' answer to the depression would have been to shore up bank reserves so they couldn't collapse. Some people point out Black Tuesday. Others mention the Federal Reserve failure.
000885 It wasn't worth my time and effort.
000885 I never really got the stock market crash myself, but I never decided to look into it more.

You can leave feedback about PAM here, but please note that I don't have a lot of time to work on PAM at the moment. There are lots of other tools out there (see here for examples) in case you need a tool with more features. Thank you for your understanding!
