847a9d speaking of i should bring them back lowkey they were cool
847a9d greetings. also i think stickmen should thicken out the limbs near the ends it looks cool
49b5ba And if that man was severely stupid to the point of needing surgery he most likely had a physical limitation to his cognitive ability so, i would say he didn’t get more “him”, moreso his old system was at a certain level of its maximum ability, and the new improved physical system is also at its maximum. Maybe less actually. If he got the surgery and he wasn’t thinking to his full potential then he would, by definition, be LESS of an individual than before, by definition of “individuality emerges from physical maximum survivalistic ability”
95a87c like neurons makes more sense yeah
95a87c mmmmmmmmmmmmm
009f2d hi Dell
847a9d walks in and stances up like this.
893a5a mmmmmmmm
49b5ba Well not a literal hivemind where every single being is controlled by one intelligence, more like the neurons in a brain working together optimally due to their optimized state. We wouldn’t be robots persay, not more robots than we are in current society. Just, more optimal in the human sense. Optimal neurons fire correctly and stay healthy, optimal humans might be fully empathetic and productive and intelligent and cohesive, working together and loving each human with equity instead of inequality. Perfect doesn’t mean monotone if the system you’re trying to apply it to is as complex as a human.
49b5ba Well depends pepper. If they’re “stupid” because of physical mental limitations like disease or trauma then they can’t logically reach a state of “intelligence” higher than the one they’re currently in, so they wouldn’t be so to say “less” of an individual than someone who doesn’t have that physical limitation. If they’re “stupid” because they don’t excersize their consciousness, then theres a state of being that they can achieve by doing so, which we COULD say is more them. We do tend to say people aren’t reaching their potential if thats the case, afterall.
95a87c Imean maybe but it'd basically be a hive mind that's not possible
95a87c I remember reading a story about a guy who was super dumb who got an surgery to make him smarter, would we say the smarter version of him si the real him? I don''t think so so I'd say its more arbitrary
49b5ba Do you think there exists a true best survival mindset for every single human out there? One that allows for the entirety of humanity to persist in the best possible conditions? A utilitarian syntax for the personal mind.
95a87c well that would imply someone who's stupid is less of themself than someone who's smart which feels kinda iffy to say outloud
009f2d my brain hurts
49b5ba Maybe the true best self we can be is the mental state that facilitates the best survival chances, since that’s what science tells us the brain is for. An organ to help with survival by allowing the organism to react to its enviornment instead of passively existing. Does that mean that there exists a true limit to being the most you, and it’s defined as the perfect mental state given your current enviornment for survival?
49b5ba If its a spectrum, what would you even use as the right most “you” end of it? What reference point of mental state is the most you? Or, is it arbitrary because the definition of “oneself” is a perceived construct that isn’t actually a thing? Your current state is not inherently more special that one where you’re missing half of your brain, one isn’t more “you” than the other. They’re both just different orientations of particles without any concrete meaning.
893a5a well yeah probably I just didn't think of that
49b5ba You say theres a point where rationality or personality changes and that defines the point of change, but if rationality and personality fluctuates constantly by tiny amounts due to cell decay and reformation, and even someone with just 1000 nuerons missing from a section of their brain will think differently than if they didn’t, wouldn’t it mean that the undefined flipping point is more like a spectrum? You on one end, not you on the other.
b3d8aa other sirius
b3d8aa sirius
b3d8aa interesting conversation
b3d8aa hello fermented
95a87c Well there's cases of people who live normal lives even though they're missing massive portions of their brains right, I would say that we can't guarantee they are the same person but I think it'll vary from person to person but there's a certain point where changes in personality or rationality happen and I think that's when it happens, your cells always die so one doesn't mean you're an entirely different person especially if another neuron already carried the info that one had before it died
b3d8aa Sirius is unfinished
ec4a6c 187? -Demented
009f2d is this like a form of the thesues ship paradox or however you spell it
b3d8aa Sirius is here
49b5ba Well imagine this then; i slowly remove your neurons from your brain and stitch them back together perfectly somewhere else, one by one. Is there a distinct point where you stop being you? The one final neuron that makes the other brain you?
7a1482 stop making me think complicated thoughts i get anxiety
009f2d anyway i find it so calming when its just me and my grandmother awake n shit bc if its just me, im lonely and its quiet, but if my grandmother is awake, i sometimes have someone to talk to and theres SOME sort of noise playing in the background. ngl rn if she decides to turn on music on the loudspeaker and make it like, real loud, i'd prolly cry lmao
ee8921 the whole left brain right brain thing
ee8921 I guess you end at things you consciously control, you "control" your movement but you don't really your muscles are always doing things that you can't control, but then there's the fact that there's technically different yours within you kinda
070ca2 honestly love discussions like this
009f2d i need to hurry up and finish cleaning so i can eat, man
ee8921 I make the distinction because of the fact that you can exist without your body, but when your mind is gone even if your body isn't you're no longer there. I think I would have to go through each thing individually to determine what is and isn't you, things like touch sense smell are all outside things so they're not you, I would say reflexes aren't either,
070ca2 completely ripped up the inside of my lip again (i love my teeth)
You can leave feedback about PAM here, but please note that I don't have a lot of time to work on PAM at the moment. There are lots of other tools out there (see here for examples) in case you need a tool with more features. Thank you for your understanding!
